Your Website Was Built. Who Is Looking After It Now?

Insight-led guidance for businesses reviewing their website, systems and digital performance.

Launching a website feels like the finish line. In reality, it is the point at which a useful business asset begins to need looking after.

Most websites do not suddenly stop working because they were poorly designed. They gradually drift. WordPress, themes and plugins keep changing. A booking form is replaced, an email address changes, a licence renews unnoticed, a tracking tag disappears or a mobile layout starts to look slightly wrong. Nobody has done anything reckless; nobody has simply been responsible for joining the dots.

That is the risk in treating a website as a one-off purchase. It is connected to hosting, domains, security, backups, analytics, search visibility, forms, payments and often third-party systems. Each piece can be reasonable on its own, yet the customer experience is only as reliable as the whole setup.

A good aftercare arrangement is not a vague promise to “keep things updated”. It starts with clarity: what the site depends on, who owns the logins and licences, what must be checked after an update, and which business journeys matter most. A hotel enquiry form, a property search, a checkout or a booking calendar deserves different attention from a simple brochure page.

The practical benefit is confidence. Problems are spotted earlier, changes are considered before they become urgent, and small improvements can be made while the business is moving rather than after something has broken. It also gives a site the chance to improve: clearer calls to action, better service pages, more useful reporting and sensible connections between the tools already being paid for.

If your website was built by somebody else, ask one simple question: who is looking after it now? If the answer is unclear, it is worth taking stock before the next renewal, update or busy season forces the issue.
